International Travel Testing Rules
In just a few weeks, international holidays and travel from the UK could return, with a subsequent spike in travel-related Covid-19 testing.
There are currently very strict rules in place for testing in the UK and abroad, despite the government potentially establishing Covid passports, which may ease travel restrictions for those who have been vaccinated. If, as it has been proposed, holidays are reinstated on the 17th May, the UK government states that all passengers will have to take at least one PCR test in order to enter the country.
The UK traffic light system for travelling abroad highlights countries labelled as ‘green’, ‘amber’ and ‘red’ depending on government travel rules and guidelines.
Currently, those returning from a green list country will have to take a test pre-departure and other test writing two days of returning in the UK. From amber list countries, you are required to also self-isolate for 10 days and take an extra PCR test. From red list countries, you must book a government approved hotel quarantine package.
Booking Testing for Travel at Liverpool Airport
When planning your test prior to travel, many consider an at-home test, however many travel destinations do not accepted this kind of testing device. NHS testing is also not allowed to be used for travel purposes, so private Covid tests are recommended.
Test Assurance Group (TAG) have a Covid-19 testing facility at Liverpool John Lennon Airport, which provides the gold standard of testing with quick and reliable results.
PCR tests are the most commonly requested type of test, which can be a swab test or saliva test. These tests directly detect the presence of the virus, rather than an immune response or antibodies. They can detect if the disease is present very early on, before the person is symptomatic or infectious
Currently, all UK arrivals must book a two-test package prior to travel. Proof of having booked this must be shown in order to be allowed to travel into the country, where you must then self-isolate for 10 days and take the two tests on Day 2 and Day 8 after arrival. The results of these two tests also do not allow travellers to leave self-isolation early.
Test Assurance Group provide specialist Covid-19 testing, and currently have a testing site at Liverpool John Lennon Airport.
